Meet Therapist Carina Montoya.
It is my honor to be able to sit with you through whatever has brought you to therapy, and I look forward to meeting you.
Carina's clinical supervisor is Chirs Vavro, ILSW-S | EMDRIA Certified Therapist & Approved Consultant
I am a strengths-based therapist with experience in treating complex trauma, anxiety, depression, gender and identity development, relationships and family, and LGBTQ+ issues. I believe that everyone responds differently to therapy and tailor the therapeutic experience uniquely to each of my clients using your values, strengths, and goals. I work primarily with adolescents, emerging adults, couples, families, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
As a licensed social worker, I focus on your strengths and values, working with you to achieve the goals we set together for your experience in therapy. My style is eclectic, meaning that I use a variety of theories and practices to best meet your needs, operating from a collaborative and holistic approach. I work within cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral realms using a client-centered approach to improve all areas of my clients' well-being.
My therapeutic style is client-led, allowing space for you to advocate for your needs, give voice to what is happening in your life, and feel validated and supported.
My focus in therapy is to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for you to process current, past, and future events as we work together to meet your emotional and behavioral goals.
I evolve our sessions to meet your needs in pursuit of the goals we set together.
My areas of interest and expertise include:
· trauma
· anxiety
· depression
· gender and identity concerns

· loss and grief
I earned my masters in social work from Arizona State University in 2019 and have since worked with individuals and families using mindfulness practices, cognitive-behavioral interventions, solution-focused therapies, and somatic (body-based) approaches to trauma treatment. I am a certified clinical trauma specialist and while therapy can be challenging, I prioritize an environment that is inclusive, culturally responsive, and accepting for individuals of all identities and orientations.
